約6年ぶりとなる、ローラ・ニーロのセルフ・プロデュースによる8枚目のアルバム。
息子の育児を行なうために、活動を休止していたニーロの復活アルバム。タイトルの“Mother's Spiritual”がぴったりの暖かさが感じられる。初期のアルバムでは張り詰めた緊張感が感じられたが、このアルバムでは歌声の奥に力強さを感じることが出来る。
トッド・ラングレンが“Man in the Moon”と“Trees of the Ages”でシンセサイザーで参加している。プロデュースのアシストも行なったようだ。
“A Wilderness”の最後の方には、息子ギルの声が収録されている。
聴いておきたいアルバムのひとつ。
