あの辛口のエルヴィス・コステロに「20年聴ける」「大切な人に買ってあげて」という最大級の賛辞を送られたメジャー・デビュー・アルバム。その後コステロの前座に抜擢され「みんな僕を聴きに来たんじゃ無いんだろ」と愚痴っていたという噂もありますが、まあ、そういった逸話のひとつひとつが微笑ましく感じられるほど、素晴らしい大傑作です。ぼくは25年聴いて、まだ飽きずに聴いています。
でも正直第一印象は「ジャクソン・ブラウンに声が似てる？」「ペドフィリアみたいな顔・・・」で、その後は「コステロがここまで褒めるんだから聴いておくか」というチョー地味な内容でしたけどね。

幼少時代に対するノスタルジーをこのように美しく歌い上げた曲を僕は他に1曲も知りません。好きすぎてギターを完コピしました。
