Bobby Short / Jump For Joy (US, Atlantic, 1535) <1970>
Bobby Short / Jump For Joy (US, Atlantic, 1535) <1970> Piano, Vocals – Bobby Short Bass – Beverly Peer Drums – Richard Sheridan Engineer – Phil Lehle Liner Notes – Douglas Watt Producer – Nesuhi Ertegun Robert Waltrip Short (September 15, 1924 – March 21, 2005) was an American cabaret singer and pianist, who interpreted songs by popular composers from the first half of the 20th century such as Rodgers and Hart, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Harold Arlen, Richard A. Whiting, Vernon Duke, Noël Coward and George and Ira Gershwin. Short also championed African-American composers of the same period such as Eubie Blake, James P. Johnson, Andy Razaf, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, presenting their work not in a polemical way, but as simply the obvious equal of that of their white contemporaries. Short's dedication to his great love – what he called the "Great American Song" – left him equally adept at performing the witty lyrics of Bessie Smith's "Gimme a Pigfoot (And a Bottle of Beer)" or Gershwin and Duke's "I Can't Get Started". Short stated his favorite songwriters were Ellington, Arlen and Kern, and he was instrumental in spearheading the construction of the Ellington Memorial in New York City. He was a friend of Tom Jobim and was present during the composer's final days in New York City. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5m1AIfSW8Ls

Art Pepper / Art Pepper Meets The Rhythm Section (US, Contemporary Records, C 3532) <July 1957> (A) LKL-12-121-D2 (B) LKL-12-122-D2 Recorded in Los Angeles, January 19, 1957 Art Pepper - alto saxophone Red Garland - piano Paul Chambers - bass Philly Joe Jones - drums "Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section" is a 1957 jazz album by saxophonist Art Pepper with pianist Red Garland, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Philly Joe Jones, who were the acclaimed rhythm section for Miles Davis at that time. The album is considered a milestone in Pepper's career. According to Pepper, the album was recorded under enormous pressure, as he first learned of the recording session the morning he was due in the studio, and he had never met the other musicians, all of whom he greatly admired. He was playing on an instrument in a bad state of repair, and was suffering from a drug problem. Purportedly, Pepper had not played the saxophone for some time, either for two weeks (according to the liner notes), or six months (according to Pepper's autobiography "Straight Life"). However, the discography in "Straight Life" indicates that Pepper had recorded many sessions in the previous weeks, including one five days earlier. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16OoypHXcps このクラスの有名盤のプロモになると、盤質が低いことと値段が高いのは覚悟の上で探す必要があります。

Steppenwolf / Steppenwolf (US, Dunhill/ABC Records, DS-50029) <January 29, 1968> オリジナルは ①Foil Cover(アルミ拍のような銀ピカ) ②カヴァーにヒット曲 "Born to be wild"の記載がない ③"Born to be wild"の作曲者が、ジャケもラベルも "Mars Bonfire"ではなく"Mars Bondfire" と誤記されている。

Tracy Chapman / Tracy Chapman (US, Elektra, 9 60774-1) <April 5, 1988>
Tracy Chapman / Tracy Chapman (US, Elektra, 9 60774-1) <April 5, 1988> (SIDE ONE) ST-E-60774-A-DMM-2 MASTERDISK (SIDE TWO) ST-E-60774-B-DMM-2 MASTERDISK "Tracy Chapman" is the debut album by the American singer-songwriter Tracy Chapman, released on April 5, 1988, by Elektra Records. The album was recorded at the Powertrax studio in Hollywood, California. In 1987, Chapman was discovered by fellow Tufts University student Brian Koppelman. He offered to show her work to his father, who owned a successful publishing company; however, she did not consider the offer to be serious. After multiple performances, however, Koppelman found a demo tape of her singing "Talkin' 'bout a Revolution", which he promoted to radio stations, and she was eventually signed to Elektra. In early attempts to produce the first album, many producers turned down Chapman as they did not favor her musical direction. David Kershenbaum, however, decided to produce it as he wanted to record an acoustic music album. It was recorded in Hollywood, California, in eight weeks. Most of the writing is based on political and social causes. "Tracy Chapman" quickly gained critical acclaim from a wide majority of music critics, praising the simplicity, Chapman's vocal ability and her political and social lyrical content. The album achieved commercial success in most of the countries it was released, making it to the top of the charts in many countries, including Austria, Canada, New Zealand, Switzerland, Denmark and the United Kingdom. It peaked at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 and was certified six-times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), with sales exceeding over six million copies in the United States alone. Three singles were released from the album, with the most successful single being "Fast Car". The song was performed at the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute. It rose to the top ten on the US Billboard Hot 100 and also did well in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and other European countries. "Tracy Chapman" is one of the best-selling albums of all time, with sales of over 20 million units worldwide. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vv0_G88vFk4
