"Small Change"からストリングスを多用したロマンティックな3部作をリリースしたトム・ウェイツですが、ここで大きくイメージの異なる作品を発表しました。本作品がトム・ウェイツの全キャリアで最も普通のロックに近いアルバムじゃないかなと思います。
"Ruby's Arms"がリッキー・リー・ジョーンズとの別れを歌った曲で、"Jersey Girl"が後にトムの妻となるキャスリーン・ブレナンを歌った曲ですが、あれ？「付き合う相手が変わると作風が変わる」ってことですか？？・・・・マンネリ化を恐れただけ、ってことにして欲しい。

こんなに美しい曲なのに、例によって「ダメ男の勝手な言い草」・・・という感じの内容。でもトム・ウェイツで「一番好き」ぐらいに好きな曲です。
