"The Heart of Saturday Night" is the second studio album by singer and songwriter Tom Waits, released in 1974 on Asylum Records. The title song was written as a tribute to Jack Kerouac. The album cover is based on In the Wee Small Hours by Frank Sinatra. It is an illustration featuring a tired Tom Waits being observed by a blonde prostitute as he exits a neon-lit cocktail lounge late at night.Cal Schenkel was the art director and the cover art was created by Lyn Lascaro.

デビュー作のプロデュースで抱えた不満をぶつけたらしい、更に個性的な名盤です。イントロのピアノ、パワー・アップしつつあるダミ声のインパクトがすごいです。

"New Coat Of Paint"

Let's put a new coat of paint on this lonesome old town
Set 'em up, we'll be knockin' em down.
You wear a dress, baby, and I'll wear a tie.
We'll laugh at that old bloodshot moon in that burgundy sky

All your scribbled lovedreams, are lost or thrown away,
Here amidst the shuffle of an overflowing day
Our love needs a transfusion so let's shoot it full of wine
Fishin' for a good time starts with throwin'in your line.
