1954年にEroll Garnerが作曲した、世界でもっとも美しい曲のひとつで、初出は（たぶん）1955年のアルバム"Contrasts"です。サンフランシスコのライブハウスBlack Hawkに通っていた19歳（デビュー前）のJohnny MathisがErroll Garnerのライヴでまだ歌詞のなかったMistyを聴いて感動して‘Mr. Garner, I am going to record your song if I ever make a record.’と言ったというエピソードは有名。実際にはこの曲は1957年にDakota Statonが初めて録音、また1958年のSarah Vaughanの録音で有名になりました。Johnny Mathisは1956年のデビュー作が不本意な出来映えで方向性に悩んでいるときで、スタンダードを20曲ほど選んで録音したうちの1曲がこの "Misty"は、このヴァージョンが決定的名演と言われるようになりました。Julie Londonの歌唱が一番好きという人も見かけますけどね。
