Roby Duke / Not The Same

0

Roby Duke was one of the most popular Contemporary Christian Music singer among Japanese who liked AOR music in early 1980's. His voice was so soft and his melodies were very friendly to us. Unfortunately Roby Duke died of a massive heart attack on 26 December, 2007 at age of 51 years old at his home in Memphis, Tennessee.
This album is his solo debut album originally released under MCA / Songbird, USA, which was established as the Contemporary Christian Music label distributed by MCA. After closing Songbird, Roby continued to release 4 albums("Come Let Us The Reason"(1984), "Blue Eyed Soul"(1986), "Down To Business"(1989) and "Bridge Divine"(1994) ) with Good News Records, USA. Among his albums, this first album "Not The Same" and second album "Come Let Us The Reason" (1984) featuring Richard Page, Steve George and other talented musicians are said to be masterpiece albums beyond decades.

In early 1980’s here in Japan, many AOR albums were released with different artworks from the viewpoint of commercial sales, Roby Duke’s first album was one of them as you see the second photo. However, even in USA such thing happened when the album was re-released on CD in 1992 by Ocean Records (please see the third photo). The 1992 Ocean Records edition had different track listing; that is to say, the 1992 CD includes "You Love Me" (duet with Kelly Willard recorded in around 1983 produced by Tommy Coomes for Maranatha The Wedding Album, instead of "Feel It Comin'". In 1999, Vivid Sound, Japan finally reissued its original vinyl version on CD first time in the world.
