Sons Of Champlin / Welcome To The Dance

"Welcome To The Dance" is the fourth album of the Sons Of Champlin came out of legendary Psychedelic San Francisco rock movement.

The Sons of Champlin was formed by Bill Champlin in 1965 with guitarist Terry Haggerty, sax player Tim Cain, bassist John Prosser and drummer Jim Meyers.By late 1967 the lineup had changed to include keyboardist/saxman Geoff Palmer, trumpeter Jim Beem, bassist Al Strong, and drummer Bill Bowen. The first album “Fat City” was recorded in 1967 for Trident Records but was shelved until 1999 when it was released on CD in UK. In 1968, the band successfully signed with Capitol Records, releasing their double-album debut “Loosen Up Naturally” in April 1969. The album “Sons” followed in the fall of 1969 but in February 1970, the band broke up.
The Sons reformed in late 1970 as a five-piece band without Tim Cain to record “Follow Your Heart”, but they broke up once more in April, 1971.

The Sons restarted featuring a new rhythm section, with drummer Bill Vitt and bassist David Schallock and recorded this album. On this album, Sons apparently established their own soul-funk boogie rock style based on their roots in blues, R&B and Jazz.
