Glasgow-born guitarist, bassist, singer, songwriter James Hamish Stuart, one of the original members of Average White Band was with the band from their formation in 1972 to 1982, Hamish wrote
“What You Gonna Do For Me” with Ned Doheny and the song was recorded / released by AWB on the album ‘Shine” in 1980, a year later, Chaka Khan covered the song and it became the title of her third solo album released in 1981.After the AWB decided to call it a day in 1983, Hamish continued to work as a songwriter for acclaimed artists in mid 1980’s, particularly his 1986 song “If Your Heart Isn't in It” written for Atlantic Starr was well known. In the same year, David Sanborn invited Hamish to record with him and they released the live album “Straight From The Heart”, on which Hamish sang Al Green’s “Love and Happiness”.
The following year’s Hamish Stuart activity should not have to be omitted from his biography. He was teaming up with the former band mate drummer Steve Ferrone, first-call bassist Anthony Jackson and a female singer from Australia Renée Geyer, and together they released the Easy Pieces album in 1988.
In 1989 we were excited to see Hamish with Sir Paul McCartney when Paul released the 1980’s masterpiece album “Flowers in the Dirt” and then Hamish joined Paul,McCartney’s world tour of 1989 to 1993.
Since leaving Paul McCartney’s band, Hamish worked on his own new material with his group The Hamish Stuart Band. Finally we had the first solo album of Hamish Stuart “Sooner Or Later” in June 1999, 17 years after leaving AWB. The solo album includes 14 new tracks, from romantic ballads to sophisticated slices of urban funk music. You can reconfirm the reason why Paul McCartney collaborated with Hamish only if you will listen to this album.
