Toto XX: 1977-1997

Losing Joseph Williams after Seventh One tour ended in July 1988, Toto started to struggle without proper lead vocalist in 1990’s. Toto recorded and released “Kingdom of Desire” in 1991, about which I had to say was in chaos. The worst thing happened.... Jeff Porcaro died in an accident on August 5, 1992, at the age of 38. The 1995 album “Tambu” was much worse one for me, very heavy-metal without elegance, missing Paich and Porcaro sophisticated keyboards, a departure from Toto's sound of the late 1970s and 1980... I reviewed those two albums that should have been called as Steve Lukather's Band’s or The New Los Lobotomys’, rather than Toto’s.
Celebrating the band 20th anniversary, David Paich and Steve Lukather went through good-old unreleased materials featuring Bobby Kimball and Joseph Williams, for releasing Toto XXs, in May 1998. The result was superb. Then, the band had a small promotional tour with former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams. After the tour, Bobby Kimball rejoined the band as lead singer after 14 years. Phew, the band was again on the right track since then.
