2004 was the first year of the Z33 generation Nissan Fairlady Z in the GT500 class of the JGTC. The NISMO team did a driver swap between the 2 cars. Reigning co-champion Michael Krumm moved to the No. 22 car as Richard Lyons replaced him in the No. 1 car to partner with Krumm's co-champion Satoshi Motoyama. The team was off to a good start, winning the first race of the season. The team would continue to perform quite well in the season. with most of their finishes being podium places. In the end, Krumm and Motoyama would end up as drivers champions while the NISMO team also won the teams championship.
