George Hawkins Jr. / Every Dog HAS Its Day

George Milton Hawkins Jr. was born 17 August, 1951 in Ventura, California in USA. It was 1976 George was widely recognised by world music lovers as the bassist for the Loggins and Messina Band, playing on their “Farewell” tour and subsequent 1977 album “Finale” Since then, George played bass for Kenny Loggins
After the band split, Loggins hired him for his solo band. “A fantastic band and one of the happiest periods of my life – very creative and formative years that will stay with me for the rest of my life,” he told David Oberman in an interview. He would perform on Loggins’s first three studio albums – Celebrate Me Home, Nightwatch, and Keep the Fire – plus the live 1980 record Kenny Loggins Alive.
George played bass and keyboards and did most of the lead vocals on Fleetwood's 1981 album “The Visitor”: then in 1983 when Mick Fleetwood formed the band Mick Fleetwood's Zoo and recorded the album “I'm Not Me”, Geirge shared lead vocals with guitarists Steve Ross and Billy Burnette,
While George started to tour and record with Eikichi Yazawa, a Japanese rock big name since late 80’s, George formed his own band called Emotional Rex, with writer-guitarist Bruce Gaitsch and drummer-vocalist Kelly Keagy (from Night Ranger) in 1989, and in the same year, recorded the original King of Hearts album with Bruce Gaitch, Kelly Keagy and Tommy Funderburk, which was later released as the album “1989”. He continued to tour with Yazawa throughout the early and mid-1990s but the 3-4 months tour a year with Yazawa allowed him to record his own record, thus this album could be released in December 1996.
Speaking of George’s reunion with Kenny Logins, it happened in 2008 when Loggins and Messina reunited.
Prior to the diagnosis with cancer found in 2017, George was set to tour Asia for 3 months from October to December that year with Japan’s beloved Eikichi Yazawa, with whom he’s toured since 1987, but he was obliged to cancel his appearance. On Friday, 26 October, 2018, he passes away after battling with cancer for the past year. RIP, dear George.
