I Am Alive
Joseph had lost his voice when he departed from Toto. It took certain time to heal. Joseph continually worked as a session vocalist, and can be heard on numerous projects by other artists, as well as on movie soundtracks. During production of Disney’s The Lion King (1994), he lent his singing voice to young adult Simba in the songs, "Hakuna Matata" and "Can You Feel the Love Tonight". By around then, his voice was getting back, hence Joseph and his long music business partner / producer Joey Carbone approached to Japanese market with demo materials for his second album release. Thus, “I Am Alive” was released in 1996. The basic track of the title song “I Am Alive” was recorded in 1989 before his departure from Toto, and thus the track had Mike Porcaro on bass and the late Jeff Porcaro on drums.
A year later from Japanese release, German version was released with two bonus tracks. If my memory is correct, the instrumental tune “Afterlife” was one of Joseph’s movie music demos.
