The Volvo Amazon was a mid-sized car designed by Jan Wilsgaard and produced from 1956 to 1970. The car was noted for its ponton styling, and was also notable for being the first car to provide front seatbelts as standard, in addition to providing three-point seatbelts as standard. The car was initially introduced as the Amason, but German motorcycle manufacturer Kreidler had registered the name; both companies agreed that the Amason name could only be used within Sweden, and the spelling was changed to Amazon some time after. The wagon was produced from 1962 to 1969. 667,791 Amazons of all body styles were produced.
