Marilyn Scott / Dreams Of Tomorrow
Marilyn Scott was born and grew up in southern California. Marilyn moved to San Francisco in early 70's and Emilio Castillo of Tower of Power recognized her gifts as a vocalist and hired her to do backing vocals on Tower Of Power albums such as "Back To Oakland" (1974). Marilyn Scott's first recording as a solo artist was a single version of Brian Wilson's "God Only Knows'' in 1977 that hit number 61 at the highest on the Billboard Chart and this led to her first album, "Dreams of Tomorrow" for Atco/Atlantic. This first album is full of R&B Jazz funk tastes all through the album. After releasing this first solo album, she released her masterpiece album "Without Warning" as you may be aware. Larry John McNally / Fade To Black
Larry John McNally wrote 2 songs, "A Man In A Man's World" and "Sleep On It", for Chaka Kahn's 1978 solo debut album. McNally signed with ARC Records in 1979 and released his solo debut self-titled album in 1981.This is his 2nd album "Fade To Black" released under ATCO Records. The album was produced by Gary Katz and featuring “The Motown Song" written and originally performed for the soundtrack to the movie Quicksilver starring Kevin Bacon in 1986. And the song became wells-known by the 1991 Rod Stewart version which peaked at number 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in September 1991. Generally speaking, McNally’s self-titled solo debut album is more popular and reissued several time (straight reissue in 1994, 2CDs Deluxe edition in 2012 and 2CDs Complete edition in 2019), whilst the album “Fade To Black” was reissued only once on CD by East West Japan (AMCY-2861) on 25 September, 1998 before 2020. Personally speaking, this second album “Fade To Black” is the best McNally album for me as of 2021, because of its stylish arrangements created by the below-listed musicians such as Buzzy Feiton, Dan Huff, Michael Ruff and Leslie Smith. Release: 1986 Label: ATCO Records, USA (7 90524-1) Tracks: 1. My Obsession 2. James Dean 3. The Motown Song 4. Switchblade 5. Long Drag Off Cigarette 6. Chinatown 7. The Beat Generation 8. Wilson Bros. / Another Night
Steve Wilson and Kelly Wilson got a chance to release this one and only album "Another Night" as Wilson Bros. in 1979. Kyle Lehning, the producer was well-known for his producing works with England Dan Seals & John Ford Corey. Thus, “If The World Ran Out Of Love" written by Wilson Bros. was recorded by England Dan Seals & John Ford Coley and climbed up to the country chart. We, Japanese would prefer “AOR” rather than "Westcoast Music" generally used in Europe for this album mainly because of the following reasons: 1. Steve and Kelly Wilson were born in Michigan and grew up in Arkansas. 2. The main recording sessions of this album was done not in Los Angeles but in Nashville. Steve Lukather was the only one musician from Los Angels, California. (Meanwhile, I would say that this must be one o the best sessions of young Steve Lukather.) Full of very sophisticated melodies with Blue-eyed Soul flavour and perfect harmonies all through the album. You must be pleased that a bonus track was added to the remastered CD in 2018 as men Release: 1979 Label: ATCO Records, USA (SD38-116) First reissue on CD: September 29, 1999, by EastWest, Japan (AMCY-6041) Tracks: 1.
