The President / By Appointment Of
There were several good AOR/Westcoast albums, on which we could not find neither big Los Angeles studio musicians nor the excellent Westcoast producers. The President's album "By Appointment Of" was one of them without question. However, the member of this awesome unit "The President" are much well-known among popular music fans for the following works they involved. Pim Koopman was the drummer of rock group "Kayak" in early 70's and then joined the group "Diesel" as the drummer and keyboard player in late 1970's. In Netherlands, Pim participated in many sessions and produced many artists. I believe that you had probably a chance to listen to the lead vocal works done by Okikie Huysdens. Okikie was the man who sang on the Paul McCartney's part of "Stars On 45" Beatles Medley in early 1980's. Toshikazu Kanazawa, the writer of this reissue CD reviewed that Okikie Huysdens' voice is much more alike Don Henley's than Paul McCartney's, about which I agree when I listened to "Don't Put Me On Hold", very good Eagles-vein mid-tempo rock tune. This album is one of the must-item for AOR/Westcoast pop lovers. Do not miss the chance to get the CD this time!! For your information, The President also released their second album "Muscles" in 1985, whcih was not so good as this masterpiece. Release: 1983 Label: CBS Records, Holland (CBS 25631) First CD Release: 1983 (Epic Sony, Japan, 35-8P-53) Tracks: 1. Hot-Blooded Lady 2. Workin' Girl 3. Makin' Millionaires 4. Don't Put Me On Hold 5. Le Roux / So Fired Up
Le Roux appeared from Louisiana as the Cajun flavored pop-rock group in late 1970's. After releasing two albums under Capitol Records, they changed their music style on their third album "Up" more Journey-esque, mainstream production. In 1981, Le Roux moved to RCA and succeeded with the top-20 hit "Nobody Said It Was Easy (Looking For The Lights)" on their fourth album "Last Safe Place". However, the lead singer left the group and as the result Dennis "Fergie" Frederiksen joined for this fifth and final album "So Fired Up" released in 1983. Yes, as you know, Dennis "Fergie" Frederiksen joined TOTO as the lead singer replacing Bobby Kimball. On this "So Fired Up" album, Fergie reveals his genious talent as a vocalist with excellent high-tone voice. You may be aware that the 1999 reissued CD artwork is the different from the original vinyl. Furthermore, you may be aware that the order of the tracks is also different from the original one. And one bonus track "Back In America" (lead vocal by Terry Brock, not Fergie!) is added. You can reconfirm the young powerful Fergie's vocal talent with energy when you listen to 1999 reissued CD edition. Reed Nielsen - Mark Pearson / Nielsen Pearson + Blind Luck
The late George Reed Nielsen (passed away on 15 November, 2014) and Mark Pearson must be duly appreciated as well as Richard Page and Steve George of "Pages" (later "Mr. Mister") and/or "Bugatti-Musker" in early 1980's music scene. The history of the duo went back to end of the 1960’s. Initially, Nielsen was a drummer, but soon after he began writing with Pearson, he switched to guitar and piano. They formed the Nielsen Pearson Band in the mid-1970’s with John Bowen on bass & vocals and Duane Temme - on drums & vocals. Whilst the band was an opening act at shows in the San Francisco area, such as for Les Dudek. Subsequently they successfully signed by Epic Records in 1977, and released self-titled debut album in 1978. The duo appeared to be influenced by Jackson Browne, and Eagles in terms of music style. Before the duo released their sophomore efforts on Capitol Records, in 1980, they shortened the name of the band as Nielsen Pearson. Musically, the Nielsen Pearson album by the duo was similar, unusual chord changes and superior musicianship delivered by session aces listed as below instead of Bowen and Temme. The album ‘Blind Luck” under the duo’s full name, followed in 1983 again for Capitol, but this was the last one by the duo. In 1998, both albums were reissued on 1 CD very first time. Since then, no remastered reissues of each did not happen as of 2021. - Nielsen Pearson - Release: 1980 Label : Capitol Records, USA (ST-12101) Tracks: 1. Two Lonely Nights 2. Don't Let Me Go 3. Karizma / Dream Come True
"Karizma" was formed originally in 1975 by David Garfield, Ralph Rickert, Carlos Vega, Domenic Genova and Richard Tokatz. The band played mainly at Los Angeles night clubs. In 1983, David Garfield recorded and released this first Karizma’s album "Dream Come True" with top Los Angeles based musicians including Steve Lukather, David Paich and Jeff Porcaro from TOTO, Dean Parks, Neil,Larsen, Ernie Watts and many more. The album features not only instrumental but also with vocals on some tracks. James Felix, known for his 1980 solo CCM album “White As A Snow” on Light Records, wrote three songs and took lead vocalist responsibilities on those; “I Want You So”, “I've Been Played The Fool Again”. “Say You Will” and “Lonely Nights”. Personally “Say You Will” was one of my favourite songs in 1980’s. Originally, the album was released in 1983 only for Japan and Oceania on vinyl format. It was 1987 when the vinyl was reissued on CD but only in Japan. It was February 1998 when the album was reissued by David Garfield himself on his label Creatchy Records (CR-009) and widely available in USA and Europe. The album artwork was changed as the second photo shown. Release: 1983 Label: Vap Inc., Japan (35108-26) Release Date: February, 1998 Tracks: 1. Ire 2. I Want You So 3. Heavy Resin 4.
