Larry Carlton Steve Lukather / No Substitution - Live in Osaka
Larry Carlton, top of the top contemporary jazz guitarists and Steve Lukather, top of the top rock guitarists performed live together almost 25 years after first crossing paths on the burgeoning Los Angeles scene. These two great guitarists deliver a live album that highlights their soulful interplay and astounding musicianship now. Listening to this album, you can enjoy their astonishing live performance covering Jeff Beck’s "The Pump" with deep moods, the legendary Miles Davis' tune "All Blues", Larry’s "Don't Give It Up", "(It Was) Only Yesterday" and Larry's signature piece “Room 335”. Doobie Brothers / Sibling Rivalry
It was 1989 when Doobie Brothers reunited with the new studio recording album "Recycles". I remember we were so excited because Tom Johnston, the original lead vocalist / guitar player could be found as the member of reunited Doobies. To be honest, I am obliged to admit that "Recycles" and following album "Brotherhood" (1991) surely reminded us of the good-old early 1970's Doobie years, but nothing more than that. In 1996, we could confirm that Doobie Brothers were still alive by their live double CDs "Rockin' Down The Highway" featuring Michael McDonald too. And I n 2000, we met the refreshing Doobie Brothers with this studio recording album "Sibling Rivalry". All the songs on this album are never the nostalgic and imitated Doobie tunes. For example "Leave My Heartache Behind" written by Pat Simmons reminds a little of "Black Water" but totally different tunes. Keith Knunden adds the different Doobie atmosphere by his lead vocals on "On Every Corner" and "Gates Of Eden". John McFee lead vocals on "Angeles Of Madness" adds soulful and sophisticated mellow flavor to this album. Furthermore, the different kind of Westcoast feeling are brought to this album by our familiar Westcoast / AOR songwriters such as Michael Ruff , Bill Champlin and Tamara Champlin. Actually "45th Floor" written by Bill Champlin and Tom Johnston is very good Rock'n' Roll which reminds me a little "China Groove" by its guitar riff. Really recommendable new album of 2000! Beckley Lamm Wilson / Like A Brother
A collaboration between America's Gerry Beckley, Chicago's Robert Lamm, and the late Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys released an album in June 2000. They had the producer Phil Galdston, known for his duo works with Peter Thom "Far Cry" who released the acclaimed masterpiece album "The More Things Change ..." . The recording session for this album was started in 1993 and finished in the beginning of 1995. It was reported that thirteen materials were finished for this special project album. Unfortunately, Carl Wilson was gone on 6 February, 1998 before securing the proper label as the home for the record. Thus, Jerry Beckley decided to include "Hidden Talent", one of the four first recording session materils on the Ameirca's album "Human Nature" and Robert Lamm also released his solo album "In My Head" in July 1999 with two alternative versions "Watching The Time Go By" and "Standing At Your Door" originally prepared for this project. However, this project never die. The remix and remastered version of this project recordings are finally released. A year later, Japanese edition is on sale with awesome three bonus tracks. "Blue After All" is one of the four first recording session materials. And you can listen to the original version of "Standing At Your Door" too. "In The Dark" is one of the unreleased materials for Jerry Beckley's next solo album featuring Lamm and Wilson. Kevyn Lettau / The Language Of Flowers
Berlin born Kevyn Lettau established her Brazilian music influenced Jazz style in San Diego, California where she moved at the age of 14. Thus Lettau became recognised internationally as a singer with a unique personal style, blending many different popular song elements into the jazz idiom. Kevyn Lettau released the self-titled solo album for Nova in 1991, followed by the “Brasiljazz” album recorded with Peter Sprague and Mike Shapiro and John Bush. In 1992, Kevyn signed with JVC Music and recorded four albums for JVC including “Simple Life”, “Another Season”, “Universal Language”, and this one; “The Language of Flowers”. My impression of Kevyn Lettau was one of the fine smooth jazz and bossanova influenced female singers before listening to this album. She made me so much surprised because her music style was very pop! As a matter of fact, the opening song "The Language Of Love" sounded like one of 1990’s dance music... I had felt that this album might be a kind of keystone for new style of "Adult Contemporary Music" towards millennium, then in 1998. Release: 4 February, 1998 Label : Victor Entertainment Inc, Japan (VICP-60195) Tracks: 1. The Language Of Flowers 2. Have You Ever Wondered 3. Lucky Girl 4. Little Things 5. I'm Better At Hello 6.
