Burnt By The Sun
Once Amy Sky was successfully releasing her solo debut release “Cool Rain” and acting the key role of the musical “Blood Brothers” for fifteen weeks in 1996, she was not stopping to move on. Sky completed her next solo album "Burnt By The Sun" and released it in April 1998. On this album, Amy revealed how she could write various type of songs and how she could sing in various styles. Some songs are like those of Cheryl Crow's in late 1990's, some songs are like those of good old late 1970's Westcoast Music. "Soul On Soul", a duet song with her spouse Marc Jordan must be one of the finest songs of 1998. Amy sings her personal life on this album; "Forgiveness" is dedicated to her father who passed away in 1997 and "Ordinary Miracles" is the birth celebration song towards her kids. Amy said then "With this record I'm trying to reflect the reality of life as a 30 something working woman, wife, mother and daughter. At the same time, I feel as if who I am as a person and who I am as a performer are coming together. Everything I am, everything I want to be, is gelling - vocally, lyrically, musically." Amy was nominated for The Juno Award "Songwriter of the Year" in 1998 by this album. Release: 28 April, 1998 Label : Café Records / Iron Music Group, Canada (77876 51027-2) Tracks : 1. Cool Rain
Since Capitol Records shelved Amy’s first solo recording “A Breath Of Fresh Air” in 1990, the album “Cool Rain” became her first solo release. However, it should be noted that Amy was contributing to Marc Jordan, her spouse related projects in the first half of 1990’s such as Marc Jordan’s solo albums; “C.O.W” (1990) and ‘Reckless Valentine” (1993) and/or Canadian new age / progressive instrumental group Exchange’s albums. On 1992 Exchange self-titled album, Amy performed in a beautiful duet with Marc Jordan, "Until the Last Teardrop Falls." The album “Cool Rain” included several collaborations with her then songwriting partner, Bruce Gaitsch and was nominated for two Juno Awards (i.e. Canadian Grammy), including best songwriter and best new artist. Just after releasing “Cool Rain”, Amy starred in a Toronto production of the long-run by the Willy Russell London Westend / Broadway musical “Blood Brothers” with David Cassidy and Michael Burgess, which opened 4 June for a 15-week run at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto. Amy played the leading role of Mrs. Johnstone, the mother of the two blood brothers. She had several hurdles to cross to get the role, one of which was to get across the ocean to audition in England without a valid passport. This was her professional acting debut.
