Alan Sorrenti / Figli Delle Stelle
The Alan Sorrenti most commercially successful album “Figli Delle Stelle” was released in 1977. The single “Figli Delle Stelle” became smash hit in Italy and is still played on the radio and in clubs. Sorrenti was in Los Angeles and had opportunities to collaborate top musicians including Jay Graydon, who then produced the record, David Hungate from Toto on bass and on keyboards David Foster. Once Sorrenti returned to Italy, he continued the album recording, intending to adopt the same style. This is one of the most successful albums by the Italian artist, with over a million copies sold in Italy alone, and marks a turning point in his musical career which, from the progressive rock that had characterized his previous works, approaches disco music. Dick St. Nicklaus / Sweet And Dandy
It was 1979 that Dick St. Nicklaus's first album "Magic" was a kind of boom in Osaka, the second largest city of Japan located in western part of Japan, near Kyoto. Osaka has a diffent atmosphere and their own cluture and in those days thet were keen to find out some unfamiliar artists by themselves. One was Dick St. Nicklaus. Sony Music Osaka branch A&R decided to release "Magic" limited in Kansai (western part of Japan surrounding Osaka) and this trial was succeded. The album sold well and thus "Magic" was released all over Japan. Dick St. Nicklaus got a deal for his 2nd album "Sweet And Dandy" with Sony Music Japan. This album is opened by the catchy tune "Bye Bye Baby" clearly inspired by the keyboard rhythm pattern used by Doobie Borthers on their smash hit "What A Fool Believes". The beautiful ballads tune "Love, Love, Love" was covered by Bill Medley on his 1981 album "Liberty" later. Dig
Boz Scaggs’ 1997 album "Come On Home" was a kind of a tribute album to his roots i.e. R&B. Therefore, "Dig" is the original album since 1994 when Boz released "Some Change". At the very early stage we got the news that Boz was making this new album with his old boys, Danny Kortchmer and David Paich, some kind of rumor became popular. It was that this new album would be "Silk Degrees"-like album. However, Boz gives us different answer. To some extent, "Dig" is very soulful and funky, but more acid-jazzy with R&B flavor. If you would expect this album to be like "Silk Degrees" or "Middle Man" because Steve Lukather, Greg Phillinganes, Nathan East, Did Paich are involved and should note that "Dig" includes a kind of experimental tune like"Get On The Natch".For those who only hope that Boz should perform same as late 70's and 80's before "Other Roads", this album might not be satisfactory, but I love this reborn Boz Scaggs's music style too. As you see, the album release date in USA was 11 September 2001 when the never-forgettable WTC terror event happened. Release: 29 August, 2001 (Japan), 11 September, 2001 (USA) Label: Virgin Records America, USA (7243 8 10635 2 1) Tracks: 1. Payday 2. Sarah 3. Miss Riddle 4. I Just Go 5. Get On The Natch 6. Nue
Comparing with her English debut album, her fourth French language album is much more well cordinated and uniformed in terms of uniformity because Rick Allison, her longtime good musical partner, fully organized this album without any noise. This album is opened by "Adagio" type ballads tune "J'y Crois Encore", the advanced-released single tune and the hidden over-16-minutes piano instrumental track "Piano Nocturne". For Westcoast Music lovers, "Scene Abler" must be a killer tune, on which Bruce Gatisch plays marvelous guitar. Another attractive tune should be mid-tempo beautiful tune "Rio". "Bambina" is really really very beautiful great gentle ballad-type tune written by Janey Clewer and Lara rules! Perry & Sanlin / For Those Who Love
I believe you are familiar with Phil Perry, who performs good many smooth jazz vocal session works with David Foster, David Garfield and many others on various albums and releases his own solo albums "The Heart Of A Man" (1991), "Pure Pleasure" (1994), "One Heart, One Woman" (1998) and "My Book Of Love" (2000). Phil Perry started his musical journey with Kevin Sanlin in late 60's as Montclairs, who released several singles; "Hey You" (1969), "All I Really Care About Is You" (1971) and "Dreaming Out Of The Season" (1972) and also released an album in 1973. In late 70's, Phill and Richard moved to Los Angeles and did many background vocal sessions while seeking for the deal. In 1980, they got a chance to release an album "For Those Who Love" under Capitol as a duo, Perry & Sanlin. Their first single "Just To Make You Happy" stalled at number 81. In 1981, second album "We're The Winner" followed, but they became "the winner" commercially. Tavares / Supercharged
The five-brother R&B singing group Tavares are Arthur Tavares, Ralph Vierra Tavares, Perry Lee Tavares, Antone Tavares, and Feliciano Tavares who are nicknamed "Pooch," "Tiny," "Chubby," and "Butch" may be much more familiar. In 1974, their debut album "Check It Out" was issued with Capitol Records. In the summer of 1974, their second album "Hard Core Poetry" followed with the first hit version (number one R&B) of "She's Gone" written by the then relative unknown duo of Darryl Hall and John Oates. In 1975, third album "In the City" produced by Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter scored number 26 on pop chart in addition to # 8 on R&B chart. After they released acclaimed R&B album "Sky High" in 1976 and "Love Storm" in 1977, "More Than A Woman" specifically written for them by Bee Gees was issued as a single from the soundtrack album "Saturday Night Fever". "More Than a Woman" was also on their 6th album "Future Bound" in 1978, and was followed by the 1979 album "Madame Butterfly" produced by well-known Philly Soul arranger/producer Bobby Martin. By reading the above biography, you may wonder why I recommend "Supercharged" album here so much... On this album "Supercharged", Tavares embarked new voyage with our musicians including David Foster, Jay Graydon and Bill Champlin. The opener "Bad Times" reached number 47 on pop chart and "We Both Tried" followed, that was written by David Foster and Bill Champlin and well-known for Bill Champlin's version on his album "Single" (1978). Another cover of the song from Bill Champlin 's album "Single" is "I Don't Want You Anymore", also written by David Foster and Bill Champlin.
