Phil Perry / One Heart One Love
Phil Perry started his musical journey in East St. Louis with a sweet soul vocal group the Montclairs in 1969, disbanded in 1975. Perry moved to California in 1979 with former Montclair Kevin Sanlin, recording as a duo “Perry & Sanlin” that released two albums on Capitol Records in 1980 and 1981. After the duo dissolved, Phil began writing and developing his reputation as a background singer.
Among AOR / Westcoast music lovers including me, probably Phil Perry was surely recognised when he performed live with Lee Ritenour in mid 1980’s, His live performance with Lee Ritenour at Concord Pavillion, California On June 29, was captured on Laser Disc, that was really phenomenal; Perry’s lead vocal versions “Sunset Drivers”, “Mr. Briefcase” and “Is It You?” were so powerful. Further, we, Japanese were knocked out by Perry with Tim Feehan when they performed live in Tokyo, Japan with David Foster and Lee Ritenour in 1986. Perry’s lead vocal track “If I'm Dreamin' (Don't Wake Me)" was featured on Lee Ritenour’s 1986 “Earth Run” album. Perry also contributed to the Ritenour’s album “Portrait” in 1987, and “Color Rit” in 1989. Another remark as regards Perry in late 1980’s must be on the Japanese Animation Soundtrack album “Riding Bean” in 1989, produced by David Garfield, on which Perry took lead vocals with Andrea Robinson, backed by first call LA musicians such as Michael Landau, Carlos Vega, Jimmy Johnson and many others.
In 1991, Perry finally started his solo career with the album "The Heart Of The Man" on Capitol Records. In 1995, he released his second solo album "Pure Pleasure" on GRP Records. So, this is his third solo album, critically acclaimed collection of romantic meditations.
