私が初めて買った(買ってもらった)ブリタニカ百科事典で、その頃日本に進出してきたばかりの訪問販売で買ってもらいました。実は一度、断ったのですが、どうしても欲しくなり、新宿の角筈にあった会社に一人で契約に行きました。当時のボスは若い女性でソファに座り、足をテーブルに乗せていたのが忘れられません。別掲、ウェブスターの三版の三冊本はこのブリタニカ百科事典第14版に合わせた装丁になっています。当時のブリタニカ百科事典にはウェブスターではなくスタンダード英語辞典(別掲予定)が付いていました。
初版発行：1929年。第14版（14th edition）は、1929年から1973年まで発行されていました。
第13版（1926年）を大幅に改訂して刊行されました。
初めて「継続改訂方式（continuous revision）」が採用され、全体の再版を待たずに項目ごとの更新が行われるようになりました。
最終版：1973年
今までのブリタニカとは全く異なった形の第15版（新体系版）は1974年に登場し、第14版は役目を終えました。
