Yes / Close To The Edge (US, WLP, Atlantic, SD 7244) <13 September 1972>
Yes / Close To The Edge (US, WLP, Atlantic, SD 7244) <13 September 1972> (ONE) ST-A-722619-DJ (TWO) ST-A 722620-DJ "Close to the Edge" is the fifth studio album by English progressive rock band Yes, released on 13 September 1972 by Atlantic Records. It is their last album of the 1970s to feature original drummer Bill Bruford before he left to join King Crimson. After touring their previous album, Fragile, the group assembled at Advision Studios in London to record a follow-up, ideas for which had been put down since February 1972. The album marked a development in the band's songwriting, with Jon Anderson and Steve Howe writing the 18-minute title track, the band's longest song at the time. Side two contains "And You and I" and "Siberian Khatru". Bruford found the album particularly laborious to make, which influenced his decision to leave the band after it was recorded. Close to the Edge became the band's greatest commercial success, peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 in the United States and No. 4 on the UK Albums Chart. A two-part edit of "And You and I" was released in the US which reached No. 42 on the Billboard Hot 100. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-rdL2KkvzY

Wilson Pickett / Hey Jude (US, Atlantic, SD 8215) <1969>
Wilson Pickett / Hey Jude (US, Atlantic, SD 8215) <1969> (ONE) ST-A-186487-B (TWO) ST-A-681488-A Wilson Pickett – vocals Duane Allman, Jimmy Johnson, Albert Lowe – guitar David Hood, Jerry Jemmott – bass guitar Barry Beckett – keyboards, piano Marvell Thomas – organ Roger Hawkins – drums Gene "Bowlegs" Miller, Jack Peck – trumpet Joe Arnold, Aaron Varnell – tenor saxophone James Mitchell – baritone saxophone "Hey Jude" is the ninth studio album by soul singer Wilson Pickett, recorded at FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and released in 1969. The title track, a cover of The Beatles song of the same name, was a success, peaking at #13 on the Billboard R&B singles chart and #23 on the top 200. Also released as a single was a cover of Steppenwolf's "Born to Be Wild", which was less successful. The album is particularly noteworthy for the early appearance of guitarist Duane Allman, later founder of The Allman Brothers Band, who made some of his first recordings as a sideman on the album. His guitar work on the title track is credited as what first drew Eric Clapton to him, who two years later invited Allman to join him as part of Derek and the Dominos. Allman's performance on the album also compelled Atlantic Records executive Jerry Wexler to buy out his recording contract and use him in further Atlantic recording sessions, beginning his prolific career as a session musician. Pickett is also backed by members of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section on the album. Rhythm Section member Jimmy Johnson later credited Allman's performance on this album as the beginning of Southern Rock. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0y8Q2PATVyI

[Chorus] The ties that bind Now you can't break the ties that bind [Bridge] Whoa, I I'd rather feel the hurt inside Yes, I would darling Than know Know the emptiness your heart must hide Yes, I would, darling Yes, I would, darling Yes, I would, baby [Saxophone Solo] [Verse 3] You sit and wonder just who's gonna stop the rain Who'll ease the sadness? Who's gonna quiet your pain? It's a long dark highway and a thin white line Connecting, baby, your heart to mine We're running now, but, darling, we will stand in time To face the ties that bind [Chorus] The ties that bind Now you can't break the ties that bind You can't forsake the ties that bind Whoa

Led Zeppelin / Presence(US, Swan Song, SS 8416)<March 31, 1976>
Led Zeppelin / Presence(US, Swan Song, SS 8416)<March 31, 1976> (SIDE ONE) ATLANTIC STUDIOS ST-SS-763559-EE-RE △20483-(6) PR (SIDE TWO) ATLANTIC STUDIOS ST-SS-763560-EE-RE AT △20483-✕(5) PR "Presence" is the seventh studio album by the English rock band Led Zeppelin, released by Swan Song Records on 31 March 1976. While the album was a commercial success, reaching the top of both the British and American album charts, and achieving a triple-platinum certification in the United States, it received mixed reviews from critics and was the lowest-selling studio album by the band while they were still active. The album was written and recorded in the last months of 1975, during a difficult time in the band's history. Singer Robert Plant was recuperating from serious injuries he had sustained earlier that year in a car accident; this led to tours being cancelled and the band booking studio time to record Presence instead. The entire album was completed in a few weeks, with guitarist and producer Jimmy Page putting in several long shifts to complete recording and mixing. The title came from the strong presence the group felt as they worked together. The album's artwork from Hipgnosis featured several photographs centred round a mysterious black object, called "The Object". Presence is dominated by compositions by Page and Plant, with only one track credited to the entire group; unlike other Zeppelin albums, it features no keyboards and little acoustic guitar. Because Plant was still recuperating, the band could not tour to capitalise on the album's release, and only two tracks, including ten-minute opener "Achilles Last Stand", were performed live. However, the album has been re-appraised in retrospective reviews for its hard rock dynamics and simplicity compared to the group's other work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWOuzYvksRw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1t4KLOm7pO0&list=PLBzBwYhHpqLKtM2MqIP3ppkutS_t5dX9B https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXCmPHgg34o&list=PLJqgQ-4Y17OIJcXdoLQtVUA1lipCin8co

The Rolling Stones / Beggars Banquet (US, London Records, PS 539) <December 6, 1968>
The Rolling Stones / Beggars Banquet (US, London Records, PS 539) <December 6, 1968> (SIDE ONE) XZAL-8476A (SIDE TWO) XZAL-8477B "Beggars Banquet" is the seventh British and ninth American studio album by English rock band The Rolling Stones. It was released in December 1968 by Decca Records in the United Kingdom and London Records in the United States. The album marked a change in direction for the band following the psychedelic pop of their previous two albums, Between the Buttons and Their Satanic Majesties Request.Styles such as roots rock and a return to the blues rock sound that had marked early Stones recordings dominate the record, and the album is among the most instrumentally experimental of the band's career, as they infuse Latin beats and instruments like the claves alongside South Asian sounds from the tanpura, tabla and shehnai and African-influenced conga rhythms. Its release marks the beginning of the most critically acclaimed period of the Rolling Stones' career. Brian Jones, the band's founder and early leader, had become increasingly unreliable in the studio due to his drug use, and it was the last Rolling Stones album to be released during his lifetime, though he also contributed to two songs on their next album Let It Bleed, which was released after his death. Because Jones had all but abandoned the guitar as an instrument, nearly all rhythm and lead guitar parts were recorded by Keith Richards, the band's other guitarist and primary songwriting partner of the band's lead singer Mick Jagger; together the two wrote all but one of the tracks on the album. Rounding out the instrumentation were bassist Bill Wyman and drummer Charlie Watts, though all members contributed on a variety of instruments. As with most albums of the period, frequent collaborator Nicky Hopkins played piano on many of the tracks. The album was the first Rolling Stones album produced by Jimmy Miller, whose production work formed a key aspect of the Rolling Stones sound throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s. Beggars Banquet was a top-ten album in many markets, including the US (number 5) and their native UK (number 3), and has frequently been ranked highly on many retrospective "great albums" lists. While the album lacked a "hit single" at the time of its release, songs such as "Sympathy for the Devil" (number 9 UK, number 55 US) and "Street Fighting Man" (number 48 US, number 21 UK on the 1971 re-release) became rock radio staples for decades to come.
