スティクスは「アメリカン・プログレ・ハード」に分類されるバンド。デビュー時はプログレ色が強かったのですが、徐々にポップ色が入って大衆受けするようになりました。本作品はポップへの転換期にあたる5作目のオリジナルアルバム。A&M Records移籍後の1枚目で、オリジナル・バンドのギタリストJohn Curulewskiの最後のアルバムでもあります。アルバムからは「ローレライ」がヒットしました。
