デレク・アンド・ザ・ドミノスを解散してから3年以上ヘロイン漬けの生活をしていたクラプトンが、農作業をしたり少しずつリハビリを開始しているときにドミノスのカール・ラドルから受け取ったデモ・テープをきっかけに作成されたと言われるアルバム。「レイラ」の後の初のスタジオ録音作品で、全米1位のヒットとなりました。リハビリ中は「ずっと古いレコードを聴いていた」そうですが、確かに古い牧歌的な印象を受ける曲が多いです。
